Ever watch someone on social media or on screen + wonder “how do they do that”? Or “how do they know what to say” or “how do they choose what to wear”?

Do you ever just want to sit down with them, have a glass of wine + pick their brain?

Well, this week – we’re doing just that!

I asked our community to send along their most pressing questions + we’re covering anything from presentation tips, to confidence builders, to hair, clothes, makeup + MORE…

So, let’s get into the common questions everyone has about public speaking:

Being on social media is like a full-time job, how can I make it easier?

I feel that for sure! I live a lot of my business life online, it’s how I connect with my community, but it can be a lot!

My first tip would be to choose really one or two social channels that you want to be on. If it feels like a drag, you won’t stay consistent with it! So, pick the one, maybe two channels that you really want to show up on, where your clients or community are showing up + hang out there.

My second tip would be to grab a big desk calendar + write out a posting game plan. Get organized + then take some time on Sundays or Mondays to prep most of your content, so you know what to post throughout the week.

Third, let it be easy. Every morning I take a quick pic of my coffee, throw that morning’s mantra on it + post it – for me it’s super easy to do. So if there’s low hanging fruit or anything that you can post that is easy, take advantage of that!

Fourth – try using an app to schedule your posts + content for the week ahead.

Why do I need to be on social media? I sell body products, I’m not an “influencer”.

I hear this question a lot + I feel like a lot of people are resistant to showing their face on social media when they sell physical products. They feel like they don’t need to show up, that it’s not about them – but I think it IS about them! Show your face on social media so that your community gets to know you + when it’s time to sell a product, you already have a group of supporters that really know + like you + are really, really eager to buy from you.

How do I calm down before a meeting at work?

Preparation. Hands down. That’s how you’re going to feel the most confident when it comes to public speaking. If you’ve prepared as much as you can, you’re going to feel way better going into it. You can also try a couple of different breathing exercises before you go in there, to slow your heart rate + calm your nerves.

What are your tips to eliminate connecting words such as “umm” and “uh”?

Ohhhh filler words! What a struggle for a lot of us! If you’re going to give a presentation, actually record yourself beforehand + see if you can find out which ones you throw in there. From there you can start to pay attention, catch yourself + eliminate them.

Should I have my hair + makeup done before an event?

I think it depends on your ability to do your hair + makeup the way you like, + then on the event you’re doing, plus if you feel it’s important enough to make that investment. I will always suggest that if you do decide to have someone else be your “glam squad” that you do a trial run before the event, so you can make sure that you love the way you look!

And that’s a wrap on our very first “Hey Kahla…” session!

I hope this helped you out + if you have any questions about public speaking you’d love answered in our next session, you can send me a note to kahla@heykahla.com!
